The best diaper backpack 2025: Hugo 3.0 – Functional, easy-care, robust and ideal for parents
For us, Hugo isn't an alcoholic beverage, nor is it a PlayStation game. Caro sewed her first diaper backpack herself and named it Hugo without giving it much thought. The Hugo Family now boasts over 4,000 members, and Hugo has been further developed into its third generation. And this blog post is about precisely this generation: Hugo 3.0, the best diaper backpack ever!

What actually makes a backpack a diaper backpack?
As parents, we have a little more to carry, literally. So it's handy to have a bag for all that extra stuff. For everything you need with kids. In our blog post "Can you use a regular bag as a diaper bag?" we compared them for you and listed in detail the differences between the two.
In principle, you can use anything as a diaper backpack. But the real question is: "Is this practical for me?" A diaper backpack shouldn't be an additional burden—quite the opposite! As the saying goes, carrying is love. This applies not only to "babywearing" or carrying our children's worries and fears, but also to carrying things.
A diaper backpack from parents for parents
After the birth of her second child in 2017, Caro sewed her first diaper backpack. She was looking for something practical for everyday life with children. It didn't necessarily have to look like a baby, but it also had to be usable after the diaper change. She immediately put her idea into action: Her sewing machine sat on an Ikea dining table, next to her laptop with YouTube instructions and countless scraps of fabric, strips, and leftover webbing... Including bad lighting. It was pure chaos. As she back-taped the last seam, she thought, "Yeah, it turned out pretty well for the first time, so it'll stay like this." Her husband Sebastian nodded his approval while still sitting in front of the TV, and that put an end to the diaper backpack conversation. For now.
So many parents are now wearing a Hugo, and we're constantly asking you for ideas and improvements. A 23,800-strong community on Instagram is now developing products for parents with us.

From Hugo 2.0 to Hugo 3.0: What has changed and why?
In the summer of 2020, we asked for feedback on Instagram and received many messages. Afterward, we sat down together to discuss your suggestions, tried out a lot of things, and had new prototypes made. The result is the best diaper backpack we've ever developed, and now we want to show you in detail what's changed!
Finally a diaper backpack with a bottle compartment on the outside
One of the first changes we had to implement for and with you was the external bottle compartment. The community's request grew ever stronger: the new Hugo needs an external bottle compartment.

Even distribution of bottle nets
To ensure that the weight of your Hugo is evenly distributed on both sides, we separated the two bottle nets inside and placed one of them on the left side.
On your request: Zipper for the front compartment and key carabiner
The front compartment has a water-repellent zipper and is also equipped with a key carabiner. Now, rain won't get in, and you can access your car keys instantly without having to open the backpack.

The best diaper backpack now has a chest strap
We've listened to you, and even though we've always been hesitant about it, Hugo 3.0 now has a variable chest strap . This lets you comfortably carry your weekly shopping home. When you don't need it, you can simply remove the chest strap.
A larger compartment for the mobile phone on the diaper backpack
You've probably noticed that cell phones are getting bigger and bigger. We've made the smartphone compartment on the outside of the Hugo larger, so newer phones now fit inside and can be pulled out without having to put the Hugo down.

The thing about sustainability
You've probably read this on our website or Instagram: We want to shape a new generation of parents. Mindful consumption is an important step toward a more sustainable family life for us. It's important to us that we can use the things we have at our disposal for as long as possible. That's why our Hugo is made of durable Cordura (the same fabric used for motorcycle and military gear) and super-robust and sturdy recycled polyester (light gray & sand).
If you're looking for a diaper backpack that you can also use for work or everyday life without kids, the Hugo 3.0 is the best diaper backpack around. 😊
PS: The chest strap is part of the standard accessories for Hugo 3.0 , as are the stroller attachment and the wet bag.
