Limited Colors and the Development of Hugo – The Evolution of the Changing Backpack from 2017 to 2024
What happened when & what happened how – Many of you always ask us about the limited colors and the different generations of Hugo.
That's why we've decided on the spot: We'll create an informative blog post for you, which is primarily intended to help you and which we can refer to much more easily when certain questions arise.
This blog post is about the Limited Edition colors, the Classic colors, and the different generations of Hugo 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0. There's also a hot tip for you if you have further questions or want to discuss specific topics with the community.
Our colors & the two categories
The availability of the backpacks and bags is divided into two categories: On the one hand there are the Classic and on the other hand the Limited colors.
What do you mean by classic colors?
The Classic colors are always available in the shop . Since 2022, the two current Classic colors are black (Cordura) and light gray (rPES) . rPES = recycled polyester. You can learn more about both materials in this blog post .
And what about the limited colors?
We'd be happy to explain: We have our limited edition colors as a special offer. When stocks run low, that limited edition color is gone. Currently, in addition to the classic colors, we also have Hugo in sand, blue, and mustard yellow.
The first Hugo that Caro sewed herself
Caro sewed the first 100 Hugos from oilskin in 2017 until around April 2019. After that, Hugo appeared in an industrially manufactured version made of Cordura.

When was there a limited color?
From 2019, Hugo was available in dark grey and this was also the first limited colour ever.

After we asked for your feedback on Instagram in the summer of 2020, we discussed numerous suggestions and created prototypes. One thing was clear: The result is the best diaper backpack we've ever developed.
FINALLY (!) a diaper backpack with an outside bottle compartment!
The community's request grew ever stronger: The new Hugo needs an external bottle compartment. Therefore, one of the first changes we had to implement for and with you was the external bottle compartment . (For bottles up to 8 cm in diameter)
Even distribution of bottle nets
To ensure that the weight of your Hugo is evenly distributed on both sides , the two bottle nets were separated inside and one of them was placed on the left side.
On your request: Zipper for the front compartment and key carabiner
The front compartment has a water-repellent zipper and is also equipped with a key carabiner . Now, rain won't get in, and you can access your car keys instantly without having to open the backpack.
The best diaper backpack with chest strap included
We listened to you, and even though we've always been hesitant about it, the Hugo 3.0 release included a variable chest strap . If you don't need it, you can simply remove it.
A larger compartment for the mobile phone on the diaper backpack
You've probably noticed that cell phones are getting bigger and bigger. We've made the smartphone compartment on the outside of the Hugo larger , so newer phones now fit inside and can be pulled out without having to put the Hugo down.
